Who We Are
The Resource Group was founded in 1984 in Towson, MD as a partnership between John E. Davis, PhD and Charles Whitfield, MD. Dr. Davis has lectured widely, and is known as a foremost expert on addiction issues. Dr. Whitfield, author of “Healing the Child Within,” is a leading theoretician on issues of guilt and shame.
The organization was founded to focus on healing from addictions and other mental health issues. The Resource Group has grown and has affiliated with a number of highly skilled practitioners. It has come to be known as the place in Baltimore for those needing sophisticated and respectful multidisciplinary mental health and substance abuse care.
In 2013, the organization added a state licensed addictions treatment program called Resource Connect to help those in need of more intensive care. Resource Connect’s outpatient substance abuse treatment programs enable clients’ flexibility to remain with their families, attend school, and maintain employment while receiving treatment. In addition to highly successful partial hospitalization programs, outpatient groups, intensive outpatient treatment programs, and individual counseling, Resource Connect offers aftercare, DUI and early intervention programs, drug screenings, and family involvement opportunities. Our vision is to see Resource Connect become the preeminent provider of outpatient services in the region.
The Resource Group Counseling and Education Center, Inc. has as its mission to provide the highest quality of research based therapy and medication management services in order to support people in improving the quality of their lives. The Resource Group challenges all beliefs in looking for the best ways to help those it serves.
Please note: the Resource Group Counseling and Education Center, Inc., comprises two units: The Resource Group, a psychotherapy practice in Towson, MD and Resource Connect, a substance abuse treatment facility in Lutherville, MD.
